During my internship at the UT Southwestern Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility, I investigated methods for measuring cryo-lamella thickness. I compared instrument-generated estimates, energy-filtered electron-count ratios, and direct measurements from reconstructed tomograms to evaluate agreement among the methods. This project strengthened my skills in cryo-EM workflows, quantitative imaging analysis, data visualization, scientific reasoning, and communicating technical findings through a research poster.
As part of a four-student research team in UT Austin’s Tiny Earth program, I investigated soil bacteria collected near native plant species at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. We isolated and characterized bacterial colonies, evaluated antibiotic resistance and antimicrobial activity, and used molecular methods to identify selected isolates. This project developed my skills in aseptic technique, bacterial culturing, experimental documentation, data analysis, and collaborative research.
